Private Violin Lessons Taught by Carolyn
Carolyn’s love of the violin began over 35 years ago with her first private lesson at the age of 8. Since then, she has earned her bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Wichita State University (1986), and graduated from the Red Wing Technical Institute’s Musical String Instrument Repair school (1988). In 1990 she founded Alter’s Violin Shop as a means to integrate her knowledge and talents as an educator, musician, and repair technician.
Carolyn has taught strings classes in public schools, and is currently working with students through private studio instruction. Over 20 years of semiprofessional playing, and working with students in her shop gives her additional knowledge to share with her students. Carolyn works to ensure correct instrument size, and the most appropriate chinrest and shoulder rest combination for individual students. Additionally, students are taught playing techniques which enable the body to perform in a comfortable and efficient way. Students are taught violin with a practical, logical approach to technique and theory, creating a balanced musical experience!
